Cataracts Treatment
Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery
The LensX Precision Laser System is one of our newer additions to the Eyesight Associates surgical laser suite, providing a new level of accuracy and consistency in our no-stitch, no-patch cataract procedure.
For more than a decade, the femtosecond laser has been used effectively in refractive procedures. Now, our cataract patients can enjoy the advantages of this type of laser as well. The LensX Precision Laser System is a major advance in the world of cataract surgery, offering the precision of a laser and the accuracy of a computer-guided system.
Your laser cataract procedure starts with several measurements of your eye, both externally and internally, to determine the exact surgical plan specified for your vision. Once this is complete, your Eyesight Associates surgeon will use these measurements in creating the laser cataract procedure plan that’s tailored to your unique eyes.
During your customized laser cataract procedure, your surgeon uses the LensX laser to perform several steps of the procedure that are traditionally performed by hand. The results are more predictable, more accurate, and tailored to your specific vision needs, with the goal of restoring clear vision and the improved quality of life that comes with it.
Over the years surgical technique and IOL’s have vastly improved. Eyesight Associates prides itself on utilizing the newest and best technology. For patients who would like to become less dependent on glasses or want to take advantage of the most advanced technology, Eyesight Associates offers the Catalys laser, a revolutionary technology for advanced laser cataract procedures for many cataract patients.
Recently, Eyesight Laser and Surgery Center also added the ORA™ with Verifeye+ system. Traditionally, all measurements to determine IOL power and position have been performed in the office through the cataract. Although the results have generally been acceptable, this technology gives extra precision to final vision. The ORA™ System assesses your eye during cataract surgery, much like a GPS system tracks your progress on the road. With this data, your doctor can make real-time adjustments to arrive at a better result.
Eyesight Associates is the only practice in Middle Georgia that offers customized laser assisted cataract surgery and the ORA with Verifeye+ Technology.
New Technology Intra Ocular Lenses (IOL’s)
IOLs have been the mainstay of cataract treatment for many years but we continue to see advances in the technology. Traditional monofocal IOLs have been limited to improving distance vision. Aspheric lenses have a “high definition” effect, but only focus at one point. Toric IOL’s were developed to address astigmatism and are particularly effective when combined with advanced cataract surgery techniques.
The most exciting recent advance in IOL’s is the Symfony lens platform. On July 15 of 2016 the US FDA approved the first intraocular lens (IOL) that provides cataract patients with an extended depth-of-focus, which helps improve sharpness of vision at near, intermediate and far distances. Additionally, Symfony toric lenses have been introduced to address astigmatism while providing better vision across a broader range of distances.
The Tecnis Symfony IOL is also available in four toric models, which are indicated for the reduction of residual refractive astigmatism or imperfections in the curvature of the eye.
