happy man smiling and pointing enthusiasticallyWorld Sight Day is approaching quickly! On October 8, the world turns its attention to blindness and other vision problems. If you have a poor vision condition, our team can help. But, we do believe that prevention is the best medicine! Celebrate World Sight Day with these simple tips to maximize your eyesight:

Wear Eye Protection – Whether you’re playing sports or using heavy machinery at work, always wear protective eye gear. Sharp objects penetrating your eye can cause blindness or injuries.

Get Enough Sleep – Your eyes are constantly taking in light during the day and working to produce images. An adequate amount of sleep allows your eyes to rest.

Prioritize Your Health – Chronic health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be detrimental to your health. Maintaining a healthy weight and optimizing your health can keep your eyes in a great state.

Wear Polarized Sunglasses Year-Round – UV rays are detrimental to your eye health year-round, not just in the summer months! Even on cloudy days, UV rays can reach your eyes and damage them. Check out our optical shop for a variety of options.

Give Your Eyes a Break – Americans have a very computer-centric lifestyle which is not great for your eyes. If you have a job that demands a lot of screen time, we encourage you to take a break every 20 minutes by looking at a distant object for roughly 20 seconds.

Wash Your Hands Often – Most people touch their eyes multiple times every day without even realizing it. Whether you’re rubbing your eyes or taking out contact lenses, it’s important to do so with clean hands. Germs and bacteria can cause eye infections and issues.
