Lasek vs. Lasic

"NO BLADE" Laser Vision Correction/Lasek
A Safer Method of Vision Correction

Dear Patients,

There has been a lot of controversy in the media concerning LASIK refractive eye surgery. These concerns are due to reports of more frequent and serious complications resulting from LASIK than were previously known.

Please be assured that the majority of the reported complications occur within the first few months. If you have has LASIK and have made it through the first six weeks without problems, the main thing you need to be concerned about is future eye trauma. Please wear eye protection when engaged in activities where the potential for eye trauma exists. If you do get an eye injury, please have your eyes evaluated by an eye doctor.

The recent LASIK controversy has created a lot of confusion in the general public. If you would like to learn more about the risks of LASIK and the benefits of other methods of Laser Vision correction, please contact our office.

I have long been known as an innovator and educator in the field of Ophthalmology. After much study, I have concluded that "No Blade" Laser Vision Correction/Lasek vision correction is safer, long-term, than LASIK. We changed our laser program to emphasize these safer, Laser Vision Correction/Lasek techniques. Of course, we still offer other types of eye surgery at our state-of-the-art surgery center. Our cataract and laser surgery equipment are among the best in the world. It is very important for anyone considering any vision correction procedure to be as informed as possible. If you would like a personal consultation to learn more about vision correction surgery, please call us.

I consider it a privilege to be entrusted with your eyesight. When I am able to choose a safer procedure that gives as good or better results, I will choose SAFETY every time. At Eyesight Associates, we are committed to providing our patients the highest quality eye care using technology and equipment based on the most current medical information available. I welcome the opportunity to meet you and discuss the vision correction procedure that would most enhance your quality of life.

Sincerely,

Johnny L. Gayton, M.D.

"NO BLADE" Laser Vision Correction/Lasek

Over four years ago, the safer laser vision correction procedure called PRK was modified by brushing the epithelium aside, performing the laser procedure, then replacing epithelium. This "No Blade" procedure is called Laser Vision Correction/Lasek. It offers the safety of PRK, but has less post-op discomfort. Unlike Lasik which never completely heals, Laser Vision Correction/Lasek heals. One way to understand this is thinking about injuries to the skin. Most of us skinned our knees as children. These abrasions fully healed because they were not deep. But if we cut deep into the tissue, it did not fully heal without scarring. Laser Vision Correction/Lasek is like the abrasion, Lasik is like the cut.
