Dr. Gayton is one
of the nation's leading eye surgeons. It was his
desire to be a world-class weight lifter, but his
hands were too small
to encircle the bar in competition. He changed his
goals and used his small hands to become a world
class eye surgeon.
Born and raised in rural Georgia,
Dr. Gayton graduated with honors from the Medical
College of Georgia in 1979. In 1983, he became the
youngest ophthalmologist in
the United States. That same year Dr. Gayton opened Eyesight Associates. Dr.
Gayton became Houston County's first full-time ophthalmologist
and was the founder of Houston
County's first ophthalmic surgery center. His practice has grown to four locations,
six
doctors, one ophthalmic P.A., and numerous certified nurses and technicians.
Dr. Gayton is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American
Board of Eye Surgery. He is a member of numerous professional associations, such
as the American Academy of Aesthetic & Restorative Surgery, American Academy
of
Ophthalmology, Society for Excellence in Eyecare, American Society of Cataract & Refractive
Surgery, International Society of Refractive Surgery and many more.
Dr. Gayton has experience in the emergency room, anesthesiology and general medicine.
His contributions to ophthalmology include developing techniques for
glaucoma surgery, side-approach cataract surgery to help decrease post operative
astigmatism, improved refractive surgery techniques and the piggyback lOL procedure.
He was
the first Georgia ophthalmologist to speak out on the dangers of Lasik. Furthermore,
he
is now one of the leading advocates of the safer "No Blade" LASEK laser
procedure.
Dr. Gayton has written award-winning papers and three informative books:The
Crystal
Clear Guide to Sight for Life, Refractive Surgery for Eyecare
Para-Professionals and Maximizing Results: Strategies in Refractive,
